Our Story

Hi, I’m Mihiri,  the amma behind A is for Amma.

I was born in Sri Lanka and moved to the United States with my family when I was young. Growing up between cultures, I always felt the push and pull of wanting to stay connected to my roots while building a life here. Culture was something I carried quietly, often wondering how it would show up in the next generation.

When I became a mom to my son, William, that feeling became much more real. I knew I wanted him to grow up seeing his culture reflected in everyday moments — in the stories he heard, the clothes he wore, and the world around him.

A is for Amma began as a personal passion and grew into a small, intentional brand rooted in representation, childhood, and cultural pride. Through books and apparel, I create pieces inspired by Sri Lankan culture — designed to feel subtle, modern, and cozy, while still holding deep meaning.

Every piece is made with love and the belief that our tiny island deserves to be represented.

Thank you for being here.
